Background
The City of Leesburg, Florida aimed to maintain goodwill with its residents. To support this, the wastewater treatment department explored low-maintenance, cost-effective odor control solutions for lift stations. The goal was to avoid the ongoing costs associated with media replacement or chemical treatments, as well as the added operational maintenance those systems require. Their search led them to a bipolar ionization solution designed to neutralize odorous compounds at the source. In addition to controlling odors in the wet well, the technology also offered the benefit of significantly reducing corrosion of equipment, controls, and infrastructure.
Leesburg purchased its first bipolar ionization system, the Air+ Odor Beast, for installation at Lift Station #35. Once commissioned, H₂S gas emissions from the wastewater were immediately neutralized, and odors leaving the wet well were eliminated. The system was then implemented at Lift Station #70, where it again successfully controlled both odors and corrosion.
Impact
Due to the strong performance of the Odor Beast, Leesburg made the decision to mandate its installation at all new lift stations within city limits. Today, six systems are installed across Leesburg, with additional installations planned.

| Installation Locations | System |
|---|---|
| Lift Station #35A | Odor Beast 500, Left Hand Discharge, with Legs |
| Lift Station #35B | Odor Beast 500, Right Hand Discharge, with Legs |
| Lift Station #70 | Odor Beast 500, Left Hand Discharge, with Legs |
| Lift Station #72A | Odor Beast 500, Left Hand Discharge, without Legs |
| Lift Station #72B | Odor Beast 500, Right Hand Discharge, without Legs |

Air+ Wastewater Solutions
Our bipolar ionization technology releases millions of charged ions into the airstream to neutralize odors at the source while also helping to mitigate the corrosive effects of H₂S.
With no chemicals or carbon media required, the result is a lower total cost of ownership and a solution well-suited for headworks buildings, dewatering rooms, process tank headspaces, and large pump or lift stations.
